Give Yourself to Love

Give Yourself to Love

“Love has no opposite.” —The Upanishads

At a time of year when love is celebrated widely, often with champagne and balloons and a flurry of pink and red, many of us are left wondering: What is love, anyway? …and how can we bring more of it into our lives?

In this free guided meditation iRest founder Richard Miller reminds us that love is everywhere. Love is not a faraway, unattainable ideal—it’s our very essence. The concept that “love knows no opposite”, which is found in the Upanishads and in spiritual traditions worldwide, reminds us that nothing separates us from this essence.

When we fall in love, we don’t so much fall in love with another as with love itself. And that’s just as it should be. Our work is to open ourselves to that love, to feel it deeply, and to let love guide us in the world. With meditation, we can learn to dwell in the heart and act from a place of love.

There are many kinds of love. Most of them are conditional (based on who you are, what you do, etc.). It's nice to be reminded of the unconditional kind of love. The feeling of being connected to everyone and everything regardless of who they are or what they do for us. Thanks for this practice.
