I am a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces; I served 30 years in the RCN as a Personnel Selection Officer. I completed my BA Social Science / Military Psychology from Royal Roads Military College (RRMC) and College Militaire Royal de St-Jean (CMR) in 1994. My career was somewhat unconventional in that I completed my Basic Parachutist and Military Freefall Parachutist courses, and I served in a jump position with the Sky Hawks Parachute team. I also worked with both Canadian and US Special Forces doing occupational analyses. After achieving my Master of Arts in Psychology (Carleton; cognitive / I-O Psychology), I was employed in mostly research-centric jobs. My most recent and most applicable work experience was teaching resilience to mainly Special Forces personnel (Canadian and New Zealand) during Stress Innoculation Training. In that role I also oversaw research, selection, and training safety. It was this work experience and the associated training that peaked my interest in neuroscience and the effects of stress and trauma on the brain and body.

Throughout my years in the military I maintained a very high standard of physical fitness. However, that lifestyle also resulted in a number of injuries; I eventually found iRest during my pursuit of overcoming chronic pain from multiple injuries (including a broken back), sleep disturbances, and an OSI. The benefits of iRest have resulted in improvements in all aspects of my life - I am a believer in the benefits of iRest! Consequently, I want to share this practice with others and help others overcome their own challenges to lead a contented, pain-free life. With the view that “motion is lotion”, I also teach/practice a number of other yoga styles to help balance the mind and reduce/eliminate chronic pain.
