Certified iRest Teacher
I am a Nurse Practitioner, and have known for many years my mission on earth is to relieve suffering, physical and mental. I spent 25 years employed by the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, retiring from Primary Care January 2012.
My stressful job ultimately led me to yoga, and becoming a yoga teacher (200 hr) with Amrit Desai. I experienced Yoga Nidra during teacher training, but didn't understand the process.
An internet search for "Yoga for PTSD" led me to IRest, and my level I training in 2008. WOW, what a difference, in focus, in being in this moment. At last I had the tools to understand, and to facilitate healing. I completed my Certification in October 2011.
While at the VA I was privileged to co create our "Power over Pain" program, a multidisciplinary approach to chronic pain. The changes and improvements I saw during IRest just makes me want to hang out more on this edge of mindfulness and the pain experience.
I now teach several yoga classes incorporating a LONG savasana/IRest and have done a 6 week IRest/Yoga Nidra workshop and yearly stress management workshop at my local health club. I teach yoga/stress managment at the local Air National Guard. I'm currently developing a course of IRest specifically for chronic pain, which I hope to launch fall of 2012.
