After earning a license to become a New York City High School Principal, Johanna Maheshvari Mosca, Ph.D. took a vacation to Sedona and was called to leave the worsening school system with its metal detectors screening student weapons. In 1992, Johanna moved to Sedona, after completing twenty years as a high school English teacher and educational consultant. Captivated by Sedona, Johanna camped out for fourteen months and so enjoyed doing Yoga on the red rocks that she started “Sedona Spirit Yoga and Hiking.” Her "Sedona Spirit Yoga" is based on gentle Kripalu Yoga of self-acceptance and soothing Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, with relaxing Yoga Nidra sessions. Johanna (Maheshvari) has earned over 900 hours of teacher training certifications including 200-hour certificates from: Kripalu Yoga Center, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, McClean Meditation Training Institute, and 300 hours from the International Yoga College -- plus 464 hours of Richard Miller’s iRest Yoga Nidra Levels I-III Certifications, and two weeks of full-time study with the Desikachars and faculty at the Krishnamacharya Yoga School in India. Former President of the Arizona Yoga Association, Johanna is the author of three books applying ancient Yoga philosophy to enrich modern living-- YogaLife: 10 Steps to Freedom, Cultivate Contentment: Ancient Wisdom to Thrive in Today's World, and Teen Triumph: 10 Ways to a Winning Life. Johanna does nationwide book talks and leads Sedona vortex Yoga tours, iRest based Yoga Nidra sessions, and 6-Day Sedona-Grand Canyon Retreats, plus an annual Yoga retreat in San Diego, California.
